Reduced (Lift) bridge openings during Skyway Closure

Please be advised that during the full closures of the QEW, Skyway Bridge as outlined below, and at the request of the Ministry of Transportation, the Burlington Canal Lift Bridge will operate for pleasure craft at the top of the hour only, during the full closures .

“In order to facilitate the removal, reconstruction and placement of the expansion joints on the bridge, lane closures and full closures (weekend nights) are required and detailed in the contract documents. Lane closures are detailed in SP100F08, they typically occur between 7pm to 5am (a little longer on the weekends) and the full closures occur on the weekend nights (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) between 10pm to 8am (till 4 am on Mondays). These full closures have occurred in the past during construction of expansion joints on the Niagara Bound QEW Burlington Bay Skyway. MTO has learned from that experience and improved signing, detours and consultation with affected stakeholders.

At a site meeting last week, the contractor informed us that their 1st planned full closure is Saturday, May 5 (closure to occur from Saturday night to Sunday night) and a second full closure is planned for Saturday, May 12 (closure to occur from Saturday night to Sunday night), weather permitting.”
