NOTICE OF COMPLETION
HAMILTON BEACH PUMPING STATION CLASS
ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT

THE PROJECT AND PROCESS.
The City of Hamilton has completed a Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) for the addition of a stormwater pumping station in the vicinity of Grafton Avenue between Beach Boulevard and the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW). The addition of the stormwater pumping station is being planned under Schedule B of the Municipal Class EA (Municipal Engineers Association, 2000 as amended in 2007) process.
The Schedule B stormwater pumping station is required as a method of flood protection from Dunraven Avenue to
Arden Avenue (the Beach Community). The study area for the Schedule B stormwater pumping station is centered on
Grafton Avenue and extends to the QEW to the west. Lake Ontario to the east, Wickham Avenue to the north and Comet Avenue to the south. '
The preferred alternative is to construct a pumping station located in a vacant lot (owned by the Ministry of Transportation) at the terminus of Grafton Street just east of the QEW. The pumping station will generally include a wet well, a superstructure, pumps and motors, standby power, controls and valves. A concrete gravity sewer will convey flows from a collection manhole at Grafton Avenue to the wet well of the pumping station. The flow from the pumping station will then be conveyed through a forcemain under the QEW to the ditch at Eastport Drive.
