The Beach Buggy Brigade is a term used by Gary Evan's in one of his calendars and in his last book about the Beach. Our newest member (jaclac) has sent me in the photo from the day that the Hamilton Spectator came to the Beach to record and photograph the day's events. After the Skyway bridge opened on October 30, 1958, trucks still used the Beach Strip for passage to avoid the tolls which they had to pay themselves in most cases. As time passed some children were killed in accidents by the busy traffic and so the protests started. The Spectator took this photo on April 17, 1964.
I remember being at the protest but I don't know if I was in the picture. Member jaclac has offered to fill in some of Beach resident in the photo.
