From the Office of Councillor Collins
Lift Bridge Closures
The City of Hamilton has received notice from Federal Government representatives that maintenance activities will temporarily close the Burlington Canal Lift Bridge. Please note the information below. As always, please do not hesitate to call or email with any questions you might have.
Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) wishes to advise motorists, pedestrians and cyclists of nightly closures on the Burlington Canal Lift Bridge, located in Hamilton, Ontario.
The bridge is scheduled to be closed to all road and pedestrian traffic nightly from Monday June 20 until Saturday, June 25, 2016, from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Rush hour traffic will not be affected.
Marine traffic will not be affected.
These closures are required as part of the project to replace the bridge’s controls, drives and cables. This schedule may change due to weather conditions or logistical requirements.
Short term closures of the bridge or individual lanes will continue to occur periodically during the project. PSPC will publish notifications regarding upcoming closures, restrictions and any changes in schedule.
Safety is a top priority for PSPC during this project. The replacement of key components of the bridge’s lift system will extend its serviceable life, meeting the needs of both marine and vehicular traffic in the area.
PSPC thanks users for their patience.
