Lane Closures on Red Hill Valley Parkway Next Week

Beginning next week, the City of Hamilton will be replacing several overhead signs along the Red Hill Valley Parkway (RHVP) between Dartnall Road and King Street E. The new signs will see all references to “Stone Church Road” changed to display “Upper Red Hill Valley Parkway”.

To safely install the new signs, intermittent lane closures along the RHVP will be required. The work will begin on Monday, November 21 and is expected to be complete by Friday, December 2, 2016. The lane closures will take place between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. from Monday to Thursday only.

The work is dependent on weather and may be extended due to wind or wet road conditions.

Canadian Pacific (CP) Holiday Train Returning November 28 to Raise Awareness & Collect Donations for Hamilton Food Banks

The Canadian Pacific (CP) Holiday Train is coming back to Hamilton for its 18th year in an effort to raise money, food and awareness for local food banks. The train is scheduled to arrive at 7:45 p.m. on Monday, November 28 along Lawrence Road just south of Gage Park.

The Holiday Train features 14 rail cars decorated with hundreds of thousands of technology-leading LED lights. Once the train has safely come to a stop, a modified boxcar will turn into a traveling stage and open up for a free concert with Canadian country music star Kelly Prescott and Juno award winner Doc Walker at 8:00 p.m.

The CP Holiday Train will be raising food and cash donations for Hamilton Food Share. Please bring heart-healthy, non-perishable food donations to the event and drop them off at the Food Share truck. All food collected goes to assist emergency food programs (food banks and hot meal lines) in Hamilton.

To help make this year the best yet for local food banks, the Holiday Train asks fans new and old to follow the train on social media using the hashtag #HealthyDonations, and to invite their friends and family to spread the message about the importance of heart-healthy donations.

Those who capture the spirit of the train, holiday entertainment and the spirit of giving are encouraged to enter CP’s "Capture the Spirit" photo contest for the chance to win an exclusive ride on next year's train. Further details about the contest will be available on the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train Facebook page.

In order to ensure public safety during the CP Holiday Train event, a section of Lawrence Road (from Gage Avenue to Ottawa Street) will be closed from 6:00 p.m. to approximately 9:00 p.m. During this road closure, there will be no access to and from the Gage Park parking lot.

CP's annual Holiday Train program is a rolling fundraising event that travels across Canada and the United States raising money, food and awareness for food banks and hunger issues, hosting free holiday concerts along the way. Since 1999, the program has raised more than $12 million and 3.9 million pounds of food.
