Friends of the Beach Canal Lighthouse Group,

The minutes of our last meeting are attached and you'll note that the 2nd
post outlines the next few BCLG events. Please print this page and/or mark
these events on your calendar.

Our next gathering is on Tuesday, June 7th at 6:30 pm (or so) at Dynes
Tavern on Beach Blvd. This is strictly a social gathering to give everyone a
chance to chat about lighthouses or anything else - hopefully the superb
weather!

Any questions? Call me. Otherwise, we'll see you there!

Beach Canal Lighthouse Group
May 11, 2005, 7:00 pm Meeting held at the Hamilton Beach Rescue Unit

1. The meeting was called to order by Executive Director David Auger (DA) at
7:11 pm. Sign-in sheets were signed by 30 members and one guest (who joined BCLG during the meeting). Mary Brittan, a long-standing BCLG member and Beach resident was attending her first meeting. The agenda was reviewed verbally.

2. Minutes from the March 13 meeting were circulated. Moved by Fay Reed, seconded by Fred Briggs that the minutes be approved. Carried.

3. Treasurer Bruce Hoyle advised that the BCLG bank account has $2867.43 on deposit. Assets stand at about $3284.

4. DA reported on Updates since the previous meeting
• Directors Grace Belliveau and Les Armstrong had advised the Executive they were standing down from the Board of Directors because of other pressing commitments.
• DA advised that the Burlington Beach Catamaran Club had committed to enlist their 30 members as BCLG members. Funds and member details should be received shortly.
• City of Hamilton Staff had been contacted again regarding BCLG’s outstanding request for municipal tax exemption. DA will continue to follow for a resolution to this issue.
• DA briefly reviewed the current status of transfer of ownership.
• Doug Rivers provided a brief update on membership. He introduced Fay Reed, who handles half of the membership telephone calls, and asked for additional assistance with this task.
• DA reported that the Executive was continuing to develop a plan for the next 18 months (or so) and should be able to provide an update at the next meeting
• Jacquie Dixon had developed a mini-poster concept (with tear-off strips at the bottom) for use at local groceries, etc. It was agreed this was an appropriate tool to raise awareness and build the membership.

5. DA then introduced BCLG’s Chairman, Tony Butler, who presented a narrated slide show about the “Made in Hamilton Industrial Trail”. This was received with great interest and revealed Tony’s passion about our local industrial architectural heritage.

6. Following the traditional cookie break, discussion turned briefly to the current status of the Board of Directors. It was suggested the current Board was capable of managing BCLG’s affairs until the next annual general meeting.

7. The matter of upgrading our table display for outside events was raised and a call for volunteers was made. Fortunately, Barbara Murray agreed to take on this task.

8. Members were reminded that “Lighthouse Lane” takes place on Sunday, July 10th. This is our “street sale within a street sale” and is held on the side street known (364 days each year) as Killarney Avenue. Quality garage sale items can be delivered in advance to Grace Belliveau’s house at 671 Beach Boulevard, but Members are ask to call (905) 545-0116 in advance to make arrangements for such drop-offs.

9. A reminder was also given about BCLG’s day-long presence at the Port Maitland Festival of History. This will be held on Saturday, July 23rd at the Dunnville Airport and BCLG members are encouraged to attend. A map will be available at the next BCLG meetings and events.
