Dear Friends of the Lighthouse,

Here are 3 important dates we'd like you to keep in mind:

1. This Saturday (October 18) marks the 150th anniversary of the day George Thomson first lit the "new" lighthouse in 1858. A brief gathering of "friends of the lighthouse" will take place at the lighthouse at 5 pm on Saturday to mark the occasion. We'll read from George Thomson's diary, have a toast to the light and to all of its keepers, and we'll display the historical plaque from the City of Hamilton. Finally, we will introduce a special guest, George Thomson himself. Really!

2. The Hamilton Beach Lighthouse and Heritage District Walk on Sunday, October 19th, 2008 : 2:00 p.m. Meet at the lighthouse on the south (Hamilton) side of the Burlington Canal, west of the road and lift bridge. Explore the fascinating history of the Beach Strip. This tour will focus on the Burlington Canal, the surviving 1850’s stone lighthouse, and the flamboyant Victorian summer homes recently designated as part of the city’s newest heritage conservation district. The leader is our own Barbara Murray, so it promises to be interesting.

3.The Beach Canal Lighthouse Group's Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday, November 9 at 2 p.m. at the Hamilton Beach Rescue Unit. Please mark your calendars!
