From the Beach Banner, September 2004
As you already know, on Monday evening, July 12th 2004--- the Bitumar asphalt plant on Eastport drive caught fire (a big one).
This is the plant that we were told is completely safe. (yeah right) we were also told, that it would be 100% odour free. (excuse us while we have a laugh at that one.) Anytime you drive by the place, the smell is overpowering.
Thank goodness there was an east wind that night, blowing the smoke and the stink over the city and not on us.
We would like to inform the community, that steps are being taken to hopefully stop the flood of polluting companies in our back yard.
