This picture was very large, high quality (for it's day) shots pasted together and it doesn't show well in format I have posted it. I will try another way.
I was hoping to match Peggy's background in her outlet thread.
(Added; Clicking on the picture will bring you to full size, there is a (+) sign, click on that for the full copy.)
Written on the back;
This picture of Hamilton Harbour, Bay Front and Hamilton Beach was taken from the top of the tall chimney of the Grasselli Chemical, now CIL. It was taken sometime prior to the first world war, probably about 1913.
Donated by Mrs. R.B. Duff 1953

More info;
Having never heard of Grasselli Chemical, a quick search shows that it did exist and was constructed at the bottom of Ottawa St in 1912. However, the picture doesn't line up to one on the City of Hamilton Site.

I asked the Librarian about the picture today and she believed that the picture was taken from the top of the Dominion Power Company and Transmission's stacks. If you check the City pic, I think she is right.

BTW, the two men standing on the top of the stack have posted two flags, one American and the other, the Union Jack.""

Scott, to put things into perspective, 'the Dominion Power Company and Transmission's' had a number of names over its life, one of which was 'the Cataract Power Company'. The Cataract Company began transmitting (A.C.) current from Decew Falls to Hamilton in 1898. Here is a link to a page on the history.
http://hamiltontransithistory.alotspace.com/Cataract.html

the Cataract Company purchased the Hamilton Radial Electric Railroad (HRER) in 1901.
http://hamiltontransithistory.alotspace.com/HRER.html

and this thread indicates that the smoke stack of the HRER's powerhouse was probably torn down about that time.
http://hamiltonbeachcommunity.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-1111.html

so this would call into question the '1913' date.

According to the City of Hamilton quote on the PDF that I supplied, the Dominion Power Company and Transmission was built in 1920 and "razed" in the early 1940's. This isn't the same plant that was located on the Burlington Beach, this one was located on the opposite shore in Hamilton.

A small row boat on Hamilton Harbour, in the background the Dominion Power Company and Transmission company can be seen with the two smoke stacks and Firestone is just west of it.
