The Burlington Canal Lift Bridge is set to undergo a lift of its own for at least a million dollars.

Costs for the project, slated to be completed by April 30, 2010, fall between $1 million and $5 million, according to a request for proposal issued by Public Works and Government Services Canada.

The work will include painting the underside of the lift span and part of the splash zone above the bridge deck.

The project will include removing the existing lead paint on the bridge. Crews will also repair and replace defective steel members that are found when the paint is stripped off.

Companies interested in the project were scheduled to visit the bridge for an assessment of the site earlier this month.

A government spokesperson was unable to provide information on when the work might begin and how it would affect the area.

The bridge opened in 1962.

Hi all so where is the chips of lead paint going to end up, in the water if they sand blast???????
Those days a long gone, all the structure that is to be painted will have to be enclosed and all the old paint will have to be collected and sent to a proper facility for disposal.
BTW, the Bridge will not be painted this year.
