Lift Bridge Restricting Access.

Starting April 1st, 2015 the Lift Bridge will be restricting access to the property due to a construction project. The parking lot will be closed to the public until July 2016.

At the present time I am told that there will only be lane restrictions on the Lift Bridge, but the Skyway Bridge is also in the middle of a paint and repair project, so there will be delays.

The Burlington Canal Lift Bridge is one of the engineered assets operated by Ontario Region, and is now over 50 years old. The bridge has lifted over 200,000 times over its life, all with original controls, drive motors and electrical cabling. As you can imagine, the crew responsible for maintaining this feat of engineering has done a magnificent job keeping it operational.
This spring, a major project to retrofit the bridge with new mechanical and electrical systems will begin. The controls, drives and overhead cables replacement project will keep the bridge lifting for marine traffic for years to come.
