Riding the wave pool and water slides at Wild Waterworks is about to get a lot more expensive.

After years of modest increases, admission prices to the popular Confederation Park facility are set to rise by more than 40 per cent over the next three summers.

Members of the Conservation Authority board approved the fee increases, which next year will raise the child admission to $9.95, excluding tax, from the current $8.88.

Subsequent increases will see the child admission rise to $11.74 in 2008 and $13.14 in 2009.

The general admission will meanwhile rise to $15.85 next year, from the existing $13.55, and to $17.91 in 2008 and $20.06 in 2009.

According to a staff report, the increases are necessary to keep pace with rising wage, energy, security and maintenance costs, and to enhance water slides.

Annual price increases over the past seven years have averaged 2.4 per cent. The new prices reflect increases of 12, 18 and 12 per cent over the next three years.

Even with the fee hikes, admissions will still be cheaper than other area water parks like Bingemans in Kitchener and Wild Water Kingdom in Brampton, the staff report states.

Board chair Chris Firth-Eagland said the new fees will be reviewed annually to allow for adjustments should attendance drop at the park, which attracts up to 160,000 visitors each summer.
