Summary of June 3, Hamilton Beach Community Council Meeting
The final plans for the Elisabeth Nebesny Memorial were reviewed. It will be held June 22nd at 1:30 p.m. at the Anchor garden. A notice will be posted on the website and in the Beach Banner. Help is needed to ready the garden and volunteers were asked to be at the Anchor Garden Saturday June 7 at 9 a.m.

Jimmy Lomax was present and the Annual Beach Garage sale will be held July 13th. Notices will be posted and advertisement done as in the past. This year there will be a food drive to support local food banks, through the Hope from Hope Campaign, which are in dire need of non- perishable food items. Hopefully our community will rally and show its generosity. Councillor Collins has been asked to arrange a bulk pick up following the event as many participants thoughtlessly leave behind junk and debris.

A motion was passed to have a letter sent to W. Nolan CEO of Liberty Energy to fund a dust spectrum study initiated by the Community Council to determine density, content and potentially the source and solution to reduce dust emission in the industrial area and surrounding communities. This will bring the issue of particulate impact on health to City Hall with definitive information to support the use of bylaws to restrict dust emission
from roads open-air piles of raw materials and industrial stacks.

A motion was passed to have members investigate a course for the community to take to appeal the City Of Hamilton Councils approval of a variance application by a new industry at 215 Eastport drive to increase the height of its facility to 20 meters.

There was discussion involving the heavy truck traffic on Beach Blvd. Transports, tanker and freight trucks continue to use the boulevard as a bypass. This road is zoned as a no heavy truck route. It is a policing issue. Their size and speed are a danger to residents and have a direct impact on the structure of our homes.
Some residents are in favour of reducing the traffic flow with measures such as lights, stop signs and/or pedestrian crosswalks. The City of Hamilton Police Departments Traffic Division is well aware of complaints over the truck traffic. They have increased their presence on the road but usually fail to be here when one sails through. The permissive green truck route signs do not seem to be working to always direct traffic to Eastport Drive. A solution to this problem concerns us all.
