    Oldest House

Yes, Dorothy doesn't give any specific information on how or who the lease payments were given to and I don't see much info in the other Beach history books. Hamilton didn't take the Beach over until the late 1950's, so they wouldn't of received any payments but Saltfleet would until the Beach...

    New Sandboni

The City told me that they are going to start near the canal, there is usually a dumpster there all summer long, I guess it will be full quite often. Hopefully it makes a difference.

    Oldest House

Different times, the original houses would of been difficult to move as they were all very large and owned by the very rich. I haven't referenced the houses moved thread, but the two main reason that houses were moved was the building of the Skyway Bridge and any house in the way was demolished...

    Oldest House

In Dorothy's book, she was referring to the lots that were leased out on the south side of the canal. She also mentions that on the Burlington side of the canal there were eight lots set out on the bayside and 59 lots laid out on the lakeside in 1875. But there wasn't much development at that...

    Oldest House

I would have to look to be sure, but from what I have read in the Beach history books, the Keeper's house was moved because of the new Radial Bridge being built but the pictures contradict that statement. And yes you are correct, there is an error on the date of this picture as in 1878 the...

    Confederation Park

I just received a couple of postcards that show Confederation Park, the photos in these cards would of been from the 1970's. Even though I spent some time there, my memory isn't as good as it use to be. And another from our Photo Gallery

Worth noting, the City of Hamilton has completely shut down the access to the Beach Trail and parking, but in Burlington it is business as normal. Parking is open and there are plenty of people on the Trail and Burlington side pier. The only closure is the beach. Hamilton side; All closed...

Hydro wires on the beach - Radial Railway

In the attached picture (courtesy TPL) the single bascule bridge can seen with one set of radial tracks and only one power wire for the radial cars. This one line would be used for travel in both directions. This bridge was finished in March, 1922.

Hydro wires on the beach - Radial Railway

I agree, Many old pictures and post cards show the same towers on the lake side of the Beach, attached is a picture show a train travelling over the newly open lift bridge (so after 1962) and the same towers are still in use. Picture copyright Helmut Ostermann

Hydro wires on the beach - Radial Railway

Two wires are clearly visible in a couple of the photos added to this thread, I would assume that there was double tracking on the line and the radial cars would have a large separation and two power lines would be needed. Once the radial line went down to one track, two power lines would allow...

Hydro wires on the beach - Radial Railway

Then we are back to what happens when the bridge opened and the power was interrupted? I still haven't seen any information on the Dominion power plant, that was located on the opposite side of the harbour, suppling power to the radial line. The map included in Cataract Traction only shows one...
