BEACH COMMUNITY EDITION
SEPTEMBER 2008
BAYSIDE FLOODING UPDATE
For several years the City of Hamilton has worked on a plan to construct a pumping station in the Beach Community to resolve the decades old flooding problem on bayside residential streets. For years, City staff has been working with Ministry of Transportation (MTO) representatives to gain permission to close a portion of the QEW in the vicinity of the Skyway Bridge to undertake the necessary repairs. The partial closure is required to allow contractors to re-establish/repair pipes below the QEW that run between the Beach community and the Bay. In order for the new pump to work, it's essential that the pipes be repaired. Since 1998, the City has invested nearly $500,000 in study and design. To date, the MTO has invested close to $200,000 towards the same study and investigation.
I recently attended a meeting held by Beach Community residents at our local Member of Provincial Parliament's office to try to garner some support in obtaining the necessary approvals. At the meeting, we collectively decided to petition the MTO to exert pressure on both the bureaucracy and the Provincial Government. Please help the City and your neighbours by signing the online petition at www.chadcollins.ca or the paper petition that's been placed at the local variety store.
SALE OF CITY OWNED LOTS
This fall the City of Hamilton will be selling a number of residential lots on the bayside of Beach Boulevard. There will be 17 lots for sale. The City's Real Estate Department is currently appraising the properties in preparation of the sale. Once this task is complete the lots should be on the market in the latter part of September or early October. As with past sales in the neighbourhood, the new owners are required to start construction one year after the date of purchase and complete the construction of their new home within two years. The following properties will be marketed for sale:

ANDRIN HOMES 'BEACHES' DEVELOPMENT
I received notice from Andrin Homes that they have applied for and received their building permits to start construction of their 'Beaches' development. They anticipate starting construction the first week of September. The first occupancies will begin in January/February 2009. The landscaping and final grading will be completed during the spring and summer months of 2009.
PARK DEVELOPMENT
I have received requests from a number of Beach residents to initiate the development of several parks in the Beach Community. There are a number of green spaces on both sides of Beach Boulevard that are identified as parks in the Neighbourhood Plan, but have yet to be developed. Before proceeding further, I'd like to know whether there's interest in the neighbourhood to assist with the design process. Please contact my office if you would like to participate in the park development process.
FORMER DYNES PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT
The owners of the former 'Dynes' property (Branthaven Homes) have submitted their rezoning application for lands located at 315, 337 and 357 Beach Boulevard. The matter is scheduled to be heard at the October 2nd Planning Committee Meeting.
