Dear Councilors,
Last summer the food banks in Hamilton had a major crisis. Some had to close their doors due to empty shelves.
When the media reported this dire situation, many Hamilton residents sprang into action.
I for one did all I could. I started the Hope from Hope campaign. I went door to door on Hope ave (ward 4) and collected food. I also challenged other streets to do the same. Julian ave. and Burgess both got on board and had food drives. Combined we collected over 1000lbs of food for the Mission Services of Hamilton.
Last week I received a call from the Mission Services asking if I could once again help them out. They are in need of food now. With the summer coming, the need for food will be even greater. Of course, as a concerned citizen I said I would do all I can.
This year I am expanding the Hope from Hope food drive to include neighboring streets, as well as some businesses. I have personally mailed out over 50 requests to local stores and companies asking for their support and for donations. I have approached printers and have had 1000 flyers donated.
This is why I am emailing all the councilors. I need your help to fill the shelves of the local food banks.
I understand that you are all very busy with your duties as councilors, but this request is urgent.
I would ask that you all talk to your family and friends as well as your constituents and try organize food drives in your wards or on your own street. Even if you can only donate personally it would help. I am willing to pick up any food donations that you are willing to give. The mission services will pick up any large donations from street drives.
So please, don't let Hamilton's less fortunate go without food. They need our help! Together we can make a difference. Join in the Hope from Hope food drive and challenge.
Please feel free to give my number to any one who may be interested in registering for our challenge.
I have enclosed our challenge flyer. Please copy it and give it out to anyone who might want to help.
Please contact me as soon as possible to talk about how you can help.
Sincerely,
Sharon Cruickshanks
