A Message from the City's Waste Collection Division:
We wish to bring to your attention that due to the forecasted severe weather conditions, waste collection services regularly scheduled for Wednesday February 2nd (2011) has been cancelled and rescheduled to Saturday February 5th. Wednesday's curbside waste collection day primarily impacts Wards 3, 4, 5, 7, 10, 11, 12, 14, and 15. Included in Wednesday’s cancellation is the regularly scheduled multi-residential blue cart recycling and front bin garbage collection across the entire City, which will also be moved to Saturday February 5th.

Please note that at this time there are no changes planned for properties which receive waste collection services on Thursday or Friday.

The severe winter weather adversely affects organic, garbage and recycling collection. The Snow and ice makes it difficult for waste crews to get to green bins, blue boxes and garbage. This also includes private accesses and ramps for multi-residential organic, blue cart recycling and garbage bin collection.

Some tips for putting out waste during the winter season and snow storms:

Make sure your green bin, blue boxes or garbage is visible to the collection crews.
Wait until next week to put out your green cart and blue boxes if they are not full
Do not place green bin, blue boxes or garbage on top of or behind snow banks. Place them as close to ground level as possible at the end of the driveway or on a flat surface near the bottom of the snow bank. Do not obstruct the road or sidewalks.
Avoid placing your green bin, blue boxes, and garbage on icy surfaces.
Place heavier blue box items on top of lighter ones to prevent your recyclable materials from blowing away.
Gather up any organic, garbage, recycling and waste materials that may be buried in the snow or tossed about by the wind and place in the appropriate container for collection on the following week’s scheduled waste collection day.
