Burlington Bay Skyway Niagara Bound and Toronto Bound Structure Construction Work
The Ministry of Transportation, Ontario (MTO) is undertaking rehabilitation of the Burlington Bay Skyway Niagara Bound and Toronto Bound Structures. This work will involve expansion joint replacement, placement of new overhead sign structures, paving and concrete barrier repairs. In order to complete these works, periodic night time full closures and lane reductions will be required Niagara Bound, as well as lane reductions Toronto Bound on the Burlington Bay Skyway.
A two-lane detour will be provided via Eastport Drive during the Niagara Bound full closures. An alternate route is also available to motorists via Highway 403 to Lincoln Alexander Parkway to Red Hill Valley Parkway to the QEW.
Full Closures of the Niagara Bound Skyway lanes are scheduled to take place each weekend in 2008, from April 4 to October 31, weather permitting, with the following exceptions:
No Full Closures on the following dates:
May 16th to 19th - Victoria Day
May 23rd to 26th - Memorial Day
June 30th to July 1st - Canada Day
July 4th - Independence Day
August 1st to August 4th - Civic Holiday
August 29th to September 1st - Labour Day
October 10th to October 13th - Thanksgiving Day
Allowable Closure Times for the Niagara Bound Skyway are:
Friday 10:00pm to Saturday 10:00am
Saturday 8:00pm to Sunday 8:00am
Sunday 8:00pm to Monday 5:00am (if required)
No traffic impact is anticipated during the weekday daytime.
The precise timing of the Toronto Bound Restrictions (lane reductions only) will be posted on signs prior to lane closures. Signs indicating the timing of lane restrictions on the Niagara Bound QEW, as well as detour signs identifying alternative routes will also be installed prior to commencement of the work. Information on the closures can also be obtained from the MTO website: www.mto.gov.on.ca under Travelers Information.
