From Halifax to Hamilton, the iconic Theodore Tugboat is sailing way.

The iconic vessel has been bought by Blair McKeil, founder of McKeil Marine, after spending more than two decades in the Halifax Harbour.

Once he arrives in Hamilton, Theodore will embark on commercial trips across the Great Lakes and Atlantic Canada.

Theodore Too proving to be a big draw along the Seaway

Theodore Too was attracting a steady stream of fans to Prescott’s downtown waterfront area on Thursday and Friday. The life-size replica of the Theodore Tugboat character that starred in a children’s TV series for several years and had been calling Halifax home is being delivered to its new owner in Hamilton.
The smiling tugboat left Cornwall for the Fort Town on Thursday morning.
Theodore arrived at the foot of Centre Street at about 3 o’clock and docked just west of Prescott’s RiverWalk Park as the sky opened.
“Even in the rain, this place was packed,” captain Gary Byers said.
The crew ended up adding time to the trip from Cornwall to Prescott because of interest on both sides of the river, including the Iroquois locks.

The Theodore Tugboat series originally ran from 1993 to 2001. The parents who watched the show when they were kids and are now in their late 20s or 30s “are more interested than their children,” Byers observed. “It brings back a lot of memories.”
Among the grown-ups who flocked to Prescott’s waterfront on Friday was Tom Polite, who noted that his family had been pulling up Theodore Tugboat episodes on YouTube the past couple of weeks knowing that the tugboat would be making a stop in town.

Theodore Too Draws Onlookers to Lake Ontario Shoreline
A famous tugboat drew onlookers to the Lake Ontario shoreline in Northumberland County on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 to try and catch a glimpse.
Theodore Too which is a 65-foot life-sized reproduction of the tugboat appearing in the television series “Theodore Tugboat” said from Kingston to Oshawa on Wednesday.
The children’s series aired on CBC in 1993 with 130 episodes. The show was about a tugboat names Theodore who lived in the Big Harbour with all his friends. It was set in Halifax, where Theodore Too had its home port until June 10 when it commenced it’s journey to its new home at the Port of Hamilton.
Along the way on Wednesday a number of people were along the shoreline with binoculars in hand trying to spot the famous tugboat heading west on Lake Ontario.
One family was on their way home to Toronto from Montreal and had been following the social media posts about Theodore Too and stopped in Cobourg.
Although the tug was a fair distance from shore, the family were extremely happy to catch a glimpse from the east pier in Cobourg.
The family was only in Cobourg for a short period of time, but said they love what they did see of the town and said they would coming back.

A 4-person crew is accompanying Theodore TOO where he will be converted to biodiesel signalling his future efforts as a sustainability champion.
Theodore Too was built at Snyder’s Shipyard in Dayspring, Nova Scotia and launched on April 19th, 2000, while his official birthday (certificate day) is May 5th, 2000.

Theodore Too arrived to its new Hamilton Harbour home Sunday with fans and photographers waiting.

The iconic Haligonian tugboat was purchased by Blair McKeil, president of Burlington-based McKeil Marine in March.
