These were scanned from my book "COUNTY OF WENTWORTH 1853-1973 A Pictorial Parade"

I can't remember if I posted this one before, if so just delete it. This was a used post card sent to my grandfather in 1908.

Yes that post card is very common. Too bad that beautiful building burned down. I forgot post that first pic was from 1905. And the pic of the bikes was in 1941.

The first picture is new (to me), it shows the control room of the lift bridge and I believe the operator would be Wes McMaster who is reaching for the span lock button with the span fully raised.
This is another of the Bridge Operator showing his lifting skills while there are vehicles on the span, Kevin Belanger is the Operator in front of the control panel and the Bridgemaster (Tim Egan) in the background with his finest Christmas attire.

What is the most ships to go through on one day in and out of bridge?
I wouldn't have a real good guess on that because the transits are over the map, but the most would been a day were the bridge was closed to shipping week or so and the ships all get lined up going in and out.

The vessel in the photograph is CSL's Murray Bay (i) it is an uncommon photograph, she only sailed under this name between 1959 and June 1963 before becoming N.M. Paterson & Sons' Comeaudoc. That range should help date the photograph.

My guess was 1963 and the lift bridge didn't even open until 1962.

The first pic is all it says is "an early view along the beach strip in 1890 when ornate summer homes were built".

Second pic is says "William J Jackson family in a modest summer cottage on the beach strip at the turn of the century".

I still have lots more to scan yet. But they are mixed up here and there in the book. I will eventually get there. :)

I've been busy scanning and emailing Vintage Hamilton on FB a lot of these pics from these books. I have more books to scan yet. As I said I'm getting there. :)

I was informed that panel in the background in this picture was one taken from the old bascule bridge, apparently flashing light for shipping couldn't be matched, so the same panel was used. Notice in the picture that Sharla posted, it is the only panel that is on an angle.

This is the panel with an updated picture, things have changed on it as the technology has progressed over the years. With the new upgrades coming this year and next, I don't know if this panel will be replaced.
